Special Holiday Shopping Issue!
Read back issues of the newsletter You are cordially invited to join us for our Holiday Event and Seconds Sale at our company store, Dovetail Antiques. Shop on Saturday, December 9, from 11-4, and one of EFP's artists - Kevin Hicks, Scott Draves, or new potter Laura Klein - will sign your purchases. You can also enter our drawing to win one of three great EFP pieces that will be awarded at the end of the day. Second-quality, irregular, and journeyman pieces will be offered at reduced prices. A very limited number of experimental and rare first-year pieces with the 1997 mark will also be available at this event. Of course, a good selection of first-quality pottery and tiles from our current line will also be on hand. Don't miss this opportunity to increase the collectibility of your purchase by having it signed in person by the artist. Please join us! Here are the details:
For more information, please call John Mathews at Dovetail Antiques (608-764-1454) or Wendy or Kristin at EFP (888-704-POTS). Hope to see you there!
Is Ephraim Pottery on the gift list of someone you love this year? (Or maybe on your list?) In general, orders placed in December will be shipping in February and March. We realize that doesn't help much if you want to put some Ephraim pottery under the tree or next to the menorah! But don't get the holiday blues, because we've got some special promotions and ideas that we're sure will fill the bill. Let us make those holiday wishes come true. We've got ideas to suit everyone's budget, taste, and time frame.
This year, we are offering a selection of items that can be shipped in time for the holidays. Quantities are limited, and orders must be placed by December 11 at the latest. These orders will ship between December 12-15. If you're interested in purchasing any of these pieces, please call early - when they're gone, they're gone!
EFP offers gift certificates in any denomination. These can be mailed to either the gift giver or recipient, with or without a gift card - it's your choice. Gift certificates are redeemable on orders from our catalog placed directly with us. A catalog will be enclosed with the certificate. Gift certificates are sent by mail, so please order yours by December 15 for delivery by December 23. Priority Mail service (2-3 days) is also available for an additional $3.20.
In addition to Dovetail Antiques, our company store (see Holiday Event & Seconds Sale), many fine shops and galleries throughout North America carry our pottery and tile. An up-to-date list of retailers is maintained on our web site. You can also link to the retailers that have web sites from that page. Even if there is no store that carries our pottery in your area, many stores are willing to take telephone orders and will ship your purchase directly to you. Dovetail Antiques, our company store, also takes and ships telephone orders. Fair Oak Workshops, a mail-order catalog company in Chicago, is offering limited quantities of our #942 Prairie Dragonfly Vase, #922 Brussels Vase, #012 Begonia Vase, #807 Large Four-Handled Vase, and #030 Spanish Moss Vase as part of their Holiday 2000 promotion. They can be reached at 800-341-0597, or on the web at www.fairoak.com. NEW! Willow Glen Kitchen and Bath has holiday gifts on their web site that will ship within the week. Check out the Holiday Gifts page of their web site, http://www.willowglen.com/quick.cfm. They've got Ephraim pottery in stock, including custom and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Even though orders placed in December won't be shipped until February or March, you can still place an order and request a gift card for the recipient. We can send the card and a photo of their gift directly to you or the recipient, whichever you prefer. Please order by December 15 to allow enough time for the gift card to arrive before Christmas. This holiday season, we hope you'll consider our pottery and tile for those Arts and
Crafts fans and pottery lovers on your gift list. We're confident that both you and the
recipient will be pleased with your purchase.
Another great group of EFP designs is headed for retirement! These pieces were introduced in 1997 and 1998. You'll want to add these outstanding pieces to your collection before they're no longer available. The last day to order these pieces is Monday, January 15, 2001. Orders will be taken until 5:00 p.m. CT on January 15. Vases will be shipped around March 15; the Dragonfly Wall Pockets will have a longer lead-time. The following pieces are being retired:
EFP hit a milestone at the end of September - the Leaf Impatiens Planter (#800) reached its maximum limited edition run of 500 pieces. This is our first piece to reach the 500 mark. The Leaf Impatiens Planter is now retired. Although they can no longer be ordered from EFP, we recently shipped Leaf Impatiens Planters to several of our retailers. You can still purchase a Leaf Impatiens Planter from the following stores. If you're interested, give them a call.
The following items were discontinued on October 1, 2000:
We understand that this may disappoint our customers who are interested in lamps. The good news is, several retailers around the country purchase our vases and make them into custom lamps. If you are interested in purchasing a lamp with an EFP base, we suggest that you contact these folks.
We will also have some custom lamps with Century Studios' stained
glass shades for sale at the Grove Park Inn Arts and Crafts Conference in Asheville, North
Carolina.
EFP will be raising prices on January 1, 2001. This will be the first price increase since the company was founded. We always have, and will continue to, try hard to keep our prices affordable for all of our collectors, but our prices need to keep pace with increases in the costs of living, raw materials, and overhead. An updated price list will be enclosed with the February 2001 issue of our newsletter. We wanted to let you know about the price increase in advance, in case you've had your eye on a particular piece and have been waiting to order. If you place your order by December 31, 2000, you can take advantage of the lower prices!
It's late November on the farm, and I've recently started taking walks at lunchtime. More than one person has wondered aloud why I would begin to walk outdoors now, just when the weather has turned cold. The truth is, fall is my favorite season. Nature's abundance in summer sometimes overwhelms me. I walk down a quiet rural road that bisects stubbly brown fields strewn with dried corncobs. Each day, the thin skin of ice forming on the water in the culvert thickens a bit more. In a small, fenced pasture, a ruddy-faced cow eyes me with suspicion. I climb to the top of the hill and stop. My footsteps finally silenced, I Look down at the marsh. Breathing deeply, I listen to the sound of the wind in the trees. Trees in late fall and winter captivate me. Without leaves, they are reduced to masses of clean, twisted lines. Leafless trees are what they are; nothing hides their essence. Stripped of their ornament, only their souls remain visible. I find myself wishing my life were that simple. Then I realize that this is my life. And it is that simple.
