Winter Holiday Series: The Winter's Glow Lantern

We are pleased to present the Winter’s Glow Lantern, the eighth piece in our Winter Holiday Series. The Winter’s Glow Lantern continues our annual tradition of introducing a special numbered piece at our Holiday Pottery Fest. This design will be a numbered edition of 50 pieces and will bear our special “Winter Holiday” mark on the foot in addition to our regular marks.

For the Winter Holiday Series, we attempt to create pieces that reflect the winter season as well as the festive spirit that occurs at this time of year. Festivals of light have been celebrated around the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, since the dawn of history. The Winter’s Glow Lantern is a beautiful yet practical reflection of the many December holidays that include candlelight as an integral part of their celebrations.

As with all of our pieces, several people had a hand in creating the Winter’s Glow Lantern. Kristin came up with the idea, Kevin refined it, and Paul threw and glazed it. We think it turned out very nice and we hope you like it, too!

As in previous years, the first 25 pieces in the series will be made available for sale at the Holiday Pottery Fest. The remaining pieces will be sold through a mail-in postcard drawing. How to Purchase a Winter's Glow Lantern

There are two ways to purchase a Winter’s Glow Lantern: at the Holiday Pottery Fest sale or by entering the buyers’ drawing. There is a limit of one Winter’s Glow Lantern per household or couple residing at the same address. If you aren’t planning to attend the Holiday Pottery Fest or if you don’t get a lantern at the Fest, you can enter the buyers’ drawing. If your name is drawn, you will have the opportunity to purchase one of the Winter’s Glow Lanterns. There will be a minimum of 25 pieces offered for sale via the buyers’ drawing.

The buyers’ drawing is a postcard lottery-type drawing. To enter, you can either mail in your postcard or enter at the Ephraim Pottery Studio Gallery. You may fill out a postcard entry at our gallery through December 7th. See Buyers’ Drawing Rules at right for additional important information.

Buyers’ Drawing Rules

Only one entry per household or couple residing at the same address may be submitted. Phoned-in or emailed entries will not be accepted. We will sort through all of the postcards received. Mailed-in entries with names not on EFP’s email or postal mailing lists will be discarded. If duplicate entries are found or if we determine that someone has attempted to “stuff the ballot box,” all of the entries submitted by or on behalf of that person will be discarded and all persons involved will be barred from participating in the drawing.

To enter by mail, send a standard-sized (approx. 4.25” x 5”) postcard with your contact information (name, address, daytime and evening telephone numbers with area code, and email address) to Winter’s Glow Lantern, Ephraim Pottery, PO Box 168, Deerfield, WI 53531. Mail-in entries must be postmarked by Dec. 1st and received by Dec. 8th, 2008 to be included in the drawing.

The drawing will be conducted after the mail has been received on December 8th and all entries have been verified and duplicates discarded. We will begin contacting winning buyers immediately after the drawing. Payment will be taken at that time. Unreachable and non-paying buyers will forfeit their entry and another name will be drawn from the remaining eligible entries. If you will not be home the week of December 8th, please make sure to include where/how we can contact you if your name is drawn.
