Catalog #5 Hot Off the Presses

Just released, Catalog #5 is our biggest and best ever! Now in an expanded 16-page format, Catalog #5 features more of everything you love: more vases, more glazes, more tiles, and more about us.

Vases

Catalog #5 boasts a variety of enticing new vases: 19 in all! Here are some highlights:

  • The Valley Oak vases, with a beautiful Arts and Crafts style oak leaf and acorn motif
  • The Landscapes collection, outstanding hand-sculpted Newcomb College style vases
  • Cabinet Vases, perfect for bookcases and other small spaces, in five new styles

Glazes

Our glazes have garnered praise from pottery collectors across the country. Our new curdle glazes will amaze and delight you.

  • Blue Curdle, a dark blue with purple and yellow undertones
  • Curdled Satin Yellow, a medium yellow with deep reddish orange undertones
  • Fall Curdle, a rich yellow green with a strong three-dimensional quality
  • Fall Maple Leaf, a smooth-textured marbled gold and pumpkin

These glazes look great on two of our hottest new vases: the Begonia and the Rhinoceros Beetle.

Tile

We heard you, loud and clear: you love our tiles, and you want more of them! We listened. Here's proof

  • The Elk Creek and Walnut Hollow tiles, two distinctly individual landscapes
  • The North Wind, a sailing ship
  • Spanish Moss, a Newcomb College style landscape

Also new this year is a hand-made oak frame in a triptych format with spaces for three 6” x 6” tiles. Mix and match our tiles to create your own personalized combination.

And finally…

 More about us

Even though you can’t visit our studio, you can catch a glimpse of how we make our pottery and tile. You will find photos of pottery-making in progress throughout the catalog, as well as more information about who we are and why we say, It’s more than pottery…it’s a lifestyle.

Catalog #5 is available for $6. This charge will be deducted from your first order of $50 or more. Call  888-704-POTS now to order yours. Please have your credit card information handy. Or, if you prefer, you can mail a check to Ephraim Faience Pottery, Attn: Catalog, PO Box 168, Deerfield, WI 53531.

We’re Growing!

We’ve received a tremendous response to our pottery and tiles from our customers over the past year. As a result, we’re hiring some great new people so that we can better serve our customers. Please join us in welcoming the two newest members of the EFP studio, Jesse Wolf and Wendy Krueger. Jesse and Wendy are wonderful additions to the studio, and we are pleased that they decided to join us.

Jesse presses and decorates tile, grinds pottery, and helps with shipping, glazing, and sculpting.  When he’s not singing along with the radio in the studio, you can find him working on his wildlife woodcarvings, camping, or playing with his parakeet, Sweetpea.   Wendy handles the daily operation of the office, coordinates shipping, answers the phone, and provides marketing and sales support. When she’s not on the phone assisting customers, chances are you can find her at sign language class, listening to the oldies, or crocheting.

We also plan to have another potter join our studio this summer. Even though we’re expanding, our intention has always been to remain a small, hands-on pottery. Rest assured that we will never churn out mass-produced pottery.  We don’t want that, and we don’t think you do, either.

We’ve got an action-packed summer planned. In addition to attending shows on the west coast and in the Midwest, we’ll also have a local gallery opening to celebrate the new vases in Catalog #5. It’s a web, web, web, web world

EFP’s web site has been on line for over a year now. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from our customers on our site. In order to keep the content fresh and the site fun to visit regularly, we are planning an update and overhaul later this year. Our site is for you, our customers, and we’d like to hear what you’d like to see. Please e-mail your comments and suggestions to Kristin Zanetti. Thanks for your input!

New Company Store

EFP’s studio is located in a converted barn building in a rural area near Deerfield, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, we’re not able to accommodate visitors at the studio. As our business grows, so do the number of phone calls and e-mails asking if we have a company store.

Dovetail Antiques, located in a charming Victorian carriage house on Main Street in Deerfield, will begin carrying our complete line of first-quality pottery and tiles this summer. Seconds and experimental pieces, which Dovetail has carried in the past, will still be available.

Dovetail Antiques is located at 119 S. Main St. (Hwy 73), Deerfield, WI. Hours are Thur.-Sun., 11-4, and by appointment. From I-94, take the Hwy 73 Deerfield-Marshall exit south 4 miles to Deerfield. Info/appt: John Mathews 608-764-1454 (store) or 608-764-8310 (home).

Down on the Farm
- Kristin Zanetti

-Into each life a little rain must fall.

And fall. And fall. And fall!

So much for the drought predicted for us by the Farmers’ Almanac. “Down in the Swamp” would be a better title for this column. It’s been raining steadily here on the farm for the past two months. Since the beginning of May, we haven’t gone more than three days without rain. We actually came within a few hundredths of an inch of setting a new record for the wettest May ever.

Rivers have flooded their banks, and many farm fields are under water. The fields look more like Asian rice paddies than furrows of corn and soybeans. And with that much standing water, we’ve got a bumper crop of very hungry mosquitoes!
