for the Potters' Edition Auction? |
|
Ephraim
Faience Pottery cordially invites you to participate
in our first-ever
Potters’ Edition Auction.
The exclusive
Potters’ Edition pieces were designed and executed by our artists, and
will include both
one-of-a-kind and
strictly limited edition pieces. The vases represent a diverse range of
sizes and styles.
While
we’d love to see all of our customers at Dovetail Antiques on May 18th
for the auction, we realize that it’s simply not possible for many of
you to attend in person. For this reason, we are structuring the auction
to try to accommodate both in-person and absentee bidders.
Photos of the pieces up for auction will be posted on dovetailantiques.com
by Sunday, May 12.
The
strictly limited edition designs will be sold by silent auction. The
first piece in the edition is the Artist’s Proof, which will be on
display at the auction and on line. It will be marked “AP.” The
remainder of the edition consists of 5 numbered pieces which will be
made specifically for the winning bidders after the auction. The
Artist’s Proof and pieces numbered 1 and 2 will be reserved for
bidders attending the auction in person. Both absentee and in-person
bids will be accepted for pieces numbered 3-5. Absentee bids will be
accepted by phone and email until 5:00 p.m. CT on May 17th.
The
one-of-a-kind pieces will be auctioned live on May 18th. Absentee bids
will be accepted by phone and email until 5:00 p.m. CT on May 17th.
Dovetail
Antiques will accept absentee bids by email and phone for the
one-of-a-kind pieces, and for numbers 3-5 of the strictly limited
edition pieces, until 5:00 p.m. CT on May 17th.
Please refer to the box above for details.

| And
the winners are... |
|
The
photo contest that we announced in the February issue of News
From Ephraim was a huge success! We received over 240 photos from
35 entrants in 17 states.
Sorting
through the photos was great fun. We were incredibly impressed with the
entries, and choosing “winners” was a difficult task because there
were so many great photos. The collections represented a wide range of
styles, but all had one thing in common: an obvious love of Ephraim
Faience pottery and tile. We also received many wonderful cards and
letters along with the entries, expressing the entrants’ feelings
about their EFP collections. We feel truly honored that you choose to
display our work in your homes.
The
list of winners appears here. Winners will receive their gift
certificates in the mail along with their new catalogs, and all entrants
will receive a new catalog as soon as it’s ready. Those of you who
requested the return of your photos can expect to receive them in the
mail over the next month. Thanks to all the entrants for participating!

Land
ho! EFP’s new Ram press, named Moby by EFP’s staff in a complicated
voting procedure, washed up in Deerfield last month. Larger and more
powerful than our old press, Moby will allow us to press flatter tiles.
It will also give Todd Butzin, our master tile maker, more flexibility
and possibilities for creating different kinds of pressed objects. Keep
an eye on our web site and newsletters in upcoming months for
announcements of new items. |
| Happy
Anniversary! |
| Congratulations
and happy anniversary to Wendy Krueger! As of April 10, Wendy has been
part of the EFP family for 2 years. Wendy is our Coordinator of Daily
Operations, which is a fancy title that means she keeps things running
smoothly every day. And with more orders coming in every day, that’s
not always an easy task! Thanks, Wendy!

Down
on the Farm
by
Kristin Zanetti |
I
only went out for a walk, and concluded to stay out til sundown, for
going out, I found, was really going in.
- Attributed
to John Muir |

On the trail. |
|
Near
the farm, about a mile away in either direction, the Glacial Drumlin
Trail intersects with our country road. This spring, as the weather has
warmed and daylight has stretched
a bit further into the evening, my dog and I have begun to
explore the bike trail, as it’s known around here.
I’d
driven over the bike trail on my way to and from work for more than
three years before I ever set foot on it. I’d fly past in my car,
shooting a curious glance down the trail. But I was busy, and of course
(or so I thought) I didn’t have time to stop to actually find out what
it was like.
Well,
all that changed this spring. Using my very active, very big puppy as an
excuse, I’ve begun to take trail walks.
As he trots along, sniffing clumps of grass and wishing I’d let
him off his leash to chase birds, I look and listen, but most of all, I breathe.
I breathe it all in: the spring peepers, the sandhill cranes, the
red-winged blackbirds. I breathe in the crunch of the gravel under my
feet, the smell of the creek, and the dusty brown oak leaves. I breathe
it all into my core. And for an hour or so, both of us recapture a tiny
piece of wildness, that primordial balm that soothes the soul and heals
the wounds inflicted by modern life.
Well,
I’d best be
off. Gotta go walk the dog.
