Winter Pine Vase
next in Winter Holiday Series
|
The Winter Pine Vase is the
third piece in our annual Winter Holiday Series. Created in a limited
edition of 50 numbered pieces, the foot of the piece will bear a special
“Holiday 2003” mark in addition to the EFP mark and artist’s signature.
The Winter Pine Vase was
designed by Laura Klein. The vase stands approximately six inches tall.
Three sets of pine sprays rest on the shoulder of the piece, forming an
attractive geometric pattern when viewed from above. The body of the vase
is glazed in our spectacular Moss glaze. Evoking sunlight streaming into a
forest on a cold winter morning, the effect is simultaneously dramatic and
restful.
The Winter Pine Vase will be
introduced to collectors at the Holiday Pottery Fest on Saturday, December
6 (see the
Holiday Resource Guide
for information on the Fest).
No pieces
in the edition will be pre-sold, and there is a limit of one piece per
couple or household. The
first 25 pieces in the edition will be made available to collectors
attending the Fest. The remaining pieces in the edition will be sold by
mail-in postcard drawing.
If you won’t be attending the
Fest but are interested in purchasing a Winter Pine Vase, please mail a
standard-sized (4.25” x5.5”) postcard with your name, address, and
telephone number to Winter Pine Vase, Dovetail Antiques, PO Box 33,
Deerfield, WI 53531. Entries must be postmarked by November 22nd. The
names of 25 winning buyers will be drawn on Sunday, December 7th. Winners
will be contacted for credit card payment information within a week of the
drawing. There will be a shipping and handling charge of $16 for vases
that cannot be picked up at Dovetail Antiques. Purchases destined for
Wisconsin addresses are subject to 5.5% sales tax.
If you have any questions, please
email John Mathews at
Dovetail Antiques, or call 608-764-1454.

raise record amount for CERF

Did you know?
The Craft Emergency Relief Fund helps craftspeople sustain crafts
making as a livelihood by providing immediate support to professional
craftspeople suffering career-threatening emergencies or illnesses.
You can learn more about CERF by logging on to their
web site or by calling

In the
August newsletter, we announced that we were once again joining forces
with our company store, Dovetail Antiques, to help crafts people in need
by creating another original, limited edition vase to benefit the
Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF).
We are
pleased to report that all 100 of the Lily-of-the-Valley vases for CERF
have been sold. Our combined efforts raised a whopping $6400, the largest
single donation ever for the “Month for CERF” promotion.
The
enthusiasm of our collectors is what makes it all possible. While we
really enjoy taking part in this fundraiser, without our collectors to
purchase the piece, we wouldn’t raise a cent. As Kristin Zanetti of EFP
told Jeanne Kirby of CERF, “We have a very involved and enthusiastic
collector base that is growing by the year. That’s why it’s so great to do
a special vase for CERF. It brings CERF’s mission to a large audience, and
raises money for CERF in the process. Everybody wins!”
On behalf of
CERF, Dovetail Antiques, and all of us here at EFP, thanks to those of
you who purchased a Lily-of-the-Valley vase this year. Your contribution
will help to ensure that the American crafts scene remains vibrant by
keeping talented people working at their crafts. If you missed out this
year, or would like to add to your new CERF vase collection, stay tuned.
We’ll announce next year’s CERF vase in the August 2004 edition of
News From Ephraim.

Update on the
bird series
|
By now most of you who are interested in the numbered edition bird series
probably know that our Falcon Vase sold out in under an hour from the time
the call-in ordering began on August 15th. While it was very exciting for
the collectors who got through, it was frustrating for those who didn’t.
It was our intention simply to make the process fair to all, not to
frustrate anyone. We apologize for any frustration you may have
experienced.
The next piece in this series will be
available sometime next year. The design and date available have not yet
been determined. Most likely these pieces will be sold by mail-in lottery.
Keep watching this newsletter for further details. |

Fish story…

Kevin took a long weekend earlier in the fall to go fishing in Northern
Wisconsin. He caught (and released) a 42” musky, landing it in his canoe
with no net. The photo was taken by his wife, Kathy. |

It’s that

Thanksgiving
is one of my favorite holidays. It’s remained true to its roots as a holiday
of inclusion rather than exclusion. It doesn’t matter what religion (or lack
thereof) you are or what your ethnicity is or where you came from.
Thanksgiving is the day that anyone can pause to realize that whatever their
situation, they have something, no matter how tiny and insignificant it may
appear, to be thankful for.
Recently,
gratitude has become rather trendy. There are books about gratitude and
“gratitude journals” where one can create an inventory of pleasant memories.
Trendiness aside, taking time to recognize and appreciate the good things in
one’s life can be a humbling, life-affirming action. So, with that in mind,
here are a few things that I’m thankful for.
· I’m
thankful for the smell of decaying leaves, and for the sight of a robin in
October.
· I’m
thankful for the pale pink and turquoise sunrise and for the blazing orange
sunset.
· I’m
thankful for the music that dried corn stalks play on cold, still evenings.
· I’m
thankful for the soft, gentle fur of my dogs, with its clean scent of fresh
air and moist earth.
· I’m
thankful for the haunting calls of sandhill cranes as they glide over the
barn and into the marsh.
· And
finally, I’m thankful for the memories of so many happy childhood
Thanksgivings, sharing an abundance of love and good food with family.
Thanks, Mom.
Wishing you
all many tiny gratitudes this Thanksgiving. |
