The inspiration for this piece comes from time spent watching seals on the beautiful California coast. The serene self-satisfaction of a seal relaxing on a rocky beach takes place against a backdrop of watery blue. As it turns its face toward the rays of sun streaming down from the rim, the gracefully curved body of the seal forms the handle of the pitcher.
